What does building wealth mean?
Your net worth is what you own minus what you owe: savings, investments, your home, your business and insurance with cash value, minus your mortgage, loans and cards. Building it means growing that difference steadily, year after year, with a plan that combines saving, investing, protection and debt control.
Why it matters for your family and your business
For your family, wealth is the freedom to choose: buy a home, pay for education, help your parents or retire with peace of mind. For your business, it’s strength: reserves for hard times, capacity to grow and a business that holds value for whoever comes next.
Carolina’s financial analysis
As a Financial Security Advisor, Carolina always starts with a financial needs analysis: an organized review of your situation before talking about any product. For building your wealth, the analysis follows these steps:
- A free first conversation: your goals, your family, your business and your concerns.
- The full picture: income, expenses, debt, savings, registered accounts and the insurance you already have.
- Needs analysis: protection, retirement, housing, your children’s education and legacy.
- Options explained with products from several companies (see partners), so you can compare calmly.
- Putting it in place: opening accounts and applications, step by step and in writing.
- Regular reviews: your plan adjusts when your life changes.
Education to decide with confidence
Planning works when you understand every decision. That’s why Carolina explains before she recommends: in your language, with everyday examples, no unnecessary jargon and no pressure. You decide at your own pace, and every proposal is in writing so you can review it at home or with your family.
The value of registered accounts
Registered accounts are the most efficient way to build wealth in Canada, because the government gives you tax advantages in exchange for saving with a purpose:
| Account | What for | Tax advantage | 2026 limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| TFSA | Any goal | Tax-free growth and withdrawals | $7,000 |
| RRSP | Retirement (and a first home with the HBP) | Deduction today; tax-free growth | 18% of income, up to $33,810 |
| FHSA | First home | Deduction and tax-free withdrawal | $8,000 a year; $40,000 lifetime |
| RESP | Your children’s education | Tax-free growth and CESG grant | CESG of up to $500 a year |
Inside these accounts you can hold different investments depending on your profile. Insurers also offer segregated funds: investments similar to mutual funds that, depending on the contract, protect 75% or 100% of the capital at maturity or death and let you name beneficiaries (iA Financial Group).
Investing for the long term
- Start early: compound growth rewards time more than amount.
- Contribute steadily: an automatic monthly contribution is worth more than one big effort a year.
- Diversify according to your time horizon and risk tolerance.
- Don’t panic when markets drop: markets go up and down; your plan should be built to hold.
- Review once a year and adjust when your life changes.
Past returns do not indicate future results; actual returns vary.
Your debt, under control
You can’t build wealth while paying high interest. Before investing more, it makes sense to tackle expensive debt and build an emergency fund. See how in Financial planning.
Your own home: a key step
For many families, the home is at the heart of their wealth. We support you along the way:
- FHSA: up to $40,000 per person, with a deduction and a tax-free withdrawal. Carolina guides your family plan so each partner who qualifies opens their own FHSA.
- HBP: up to $60,000 from your RRSP per person for your first home; for first withdrawals from 2026 to 2028, repayments start in the fifth year after. It can be combined with the FHSA for the same home.
- First-time home buyers’ GST/HST rebate: up to $50,000 on new homes, with a full rebate up to $1 million and a partial one up to $1.5 million.
- Partners for your purchase: Carolina works hand in hand with partner professionals — mortgage specialists, real estate agents and notaries or lawyers — so you reach the purchase with a plan and clear numbers.
- Protecting your mortgage: term life insurance in your name can cover the home loan so your family doesn’t lose the house.
